There are many types fountains to choose from.  The possibilities are almost endless.  There are garden fountains, spouting fountains, and Japanese style fountains, waterpots, and spigots.  There are wall fountains for limited space, and cascading fountains which can be purchased as a unit, or hand built.  If building a full outdoor living space, incorporating a wall fountain into a landscape wall would be an option.  Or for limited space, look at a rain fountain.

You have options when including a waterfall into your backyard living space.  Choose from a pondless waterfall for a home with young children or limited yard space, or a multistep waterfall that offers a series of waterfalls in one feature rather than one big one.  Other options are the often used cascading waterfall,  the low noise and limited space option of the waterwall, and finally a rain curtain which is also great for a limited space back yard that still begs for a water feature.

 Landscape Streams work well on almost any property, whether you have a slight pitch, wind around a hill, or even a flat and level yard.  A closed loop system with an underground reservoir makes sure you aren’t replenishing the stream.  And the design ideas are endless, flow around a garden path, border a sitting area with a fire feature, or end in a Koi pond.

A water garden certainly has an aesthetic appeal and will add beauty to any outdoor space, as they don’t need to be overly large, but can be upscaled if you have the room.  One advantage is the unique vegetation you can plant, including floating plants, oxygenating plants, marginal plants which grow at the waters edge, and bog plants.

If limited on space or HOA rules, a good option could be a raised pond.  They install quick, look great, and can be disassembled if you won't stay in your current home that long. Additionally, they can be installed as partially raised, so part of the pond is below grade or surrounded by earth, keeping the water more stable if you decide to have fish in your pond.

A bird bath is a fantastic option if you have limited space.   Even if you already have a water feature a bird bath is a great feature to add.  Birds need clean water for drinking and bathing, and having  this feature in your outdoor space will help attract birds you don't normally see in your yard if you have bird feeders.  Also, if you install the fountain type of bird bath, you now have a dual purpose water feature that both calms people and provides a benefit to the wildlife around your property.
